Cyanotype Sunkissed Collection, Summer 2023

Behind the Scenes of a Unique Collection

Last summer, I created my third Sunkissed collection—a blend of cyanotype and gold leaf art, using Australian Native wildflowers and leaves.

I worked from the Blue Mountains, a place that has always inspired me. The blue haze that surrounds the mountains comes from the eucalyptus trees, as their oils mix with sunlight and dust, giving the air a dreamy, blue tint.

It felt like the perfect place to create this collection, using the UV light at its strongest and the wildflowers that grow abundantly in the area in Spring and Summer.

Why Cyanotype?

Cyanotype is a photographic art form with roots in the 1840s. It uses sunlight (UV rays) to develop images in negative space, on a deep beautiful Cyan blue background.

How magical it feels to harness nature's energy this way!

For my Sunkissed collection, I used Jacquard Products which are the best quality. Each piece of print is one-of-a-kind, with vibrant Cyan blue jeans tones and delicate gold leaf touch on some details I wnated to accentuate.

The Paper

I experimented with many different types of paper, as the cyanotype solution reacts differently depending on the thickness, absorption, and fiber of each one. The paper I fell in love with is Khadi paper—a handmade cotton paper that’s incredibly textured, and thick. Its unique surface and raw edges gives each print a distinct character, making the final result truly one-of-a-kind

My Connection to Nature

For the past three years, I’ve created a new Cyanotype collection every Spring/Summer to celebrate the seasons and the lush Australian nature. Growing up in Paris, I was surrounded by concrete and a few Plane Trees here and there, not much that can satisfy my need for nature . But when I arrived in Australia, it was like stepping into another world. The smell of eucalyptus, the vibrant exotic flowers, and Sydney’s greenery, everywhere—all of it felt so different and beautiful to me. I instantly felt a deep connection with nature here, and that feeling has stayed with me ever since. This connection inspires every piece I create, especially in my Sunkissed collections, which are my way of capturing and sharing that experience.

Adding a Personal Touch: Gold Leaf

Each piece is finished with gold leaf, which adds a subtle yet striking touch to the prints. The contrast between the cyanotype’s deep blue and the shimmering gold creates an enchanting effect, transforming each artwork into a personal treasure.
