A new watercolour series for ZEIT WISSEN Magazine with my agent The Illustration Room
Last month I had the joy to be commissioned for five original watercolours for the German magazine ZEIT WISSEN, including the cover! ✨
The theme of this issue was something we all seem to crave more of lately:
“Do you also need a pause?”
(Honestly… who doesn’t? 😆)
I was asked to paint peaceful spaces. Quiet moments. Places where time slows down and the mind can rest, open windows, ocean views, a cup of tea waiting, sunlight filtering through curtains, a pile of books just for you...
Moments of stillness, softness, and light. Like a deep exhale.
A gentler approach
For this series, I used a much softer hand than usual, pastel colour washes, barely any layering, and a few fine black lines. The style is intentionally minimal and light, almost fragile in places.
It was inspired in a part by Sempé's illustrations, that can magically set up a mood and light with only a few lines and touches of watercolours.
It’s a little different from what I usually do… but exploring new styles and textures has always been part of my process.
It keeps things fresh and playful.
