A little introduction to watercolour painting and inks

Watercolour is truly one of a kind.

Its magic lies in transparency and the natural flow of water, creating that soft, whimsical feel you just don’t get with other mediums.

I started using it for my Superheroes collection because I wanted them to feel alive and in motion—like they’re jumping right off the page.

Watercolour is perfect for that: it’s organic, spontaneous, and almost seems to have a life of its own.

One of the most magical things about watercolour is the unexpected.
Watercolour loves surprises. A single brushstroke can turn into something totally unexpected, like a Rorschach test for your imagination.

You just have to roll with it!

A client once told me, “Watercolour is pure joy to me,” and I couldn't agree more.

But don’t be fooled—watercolour requires patience and some kind of control.
Since it’s all about layering from light to dark, with the white space coming from the paper itself, there’s no room for errors. You can’t erase anything or overlay a mistake. And when you accidentally drag your sleeve through wet paint—on a piece you’ve been working on for days—it’s a total disaster.

Trust me, I’ve screamed my way through many tea spills unwanted watercolour spots, or fingerprints!

The key to mastering watercolour is water control (not)
You can guide it, but sometimes you need to just let go and let the water flow naturally.

The magic often comes when you stop trying to control everything—just like life!
